About The Sculpture: The Process

Clay on Metal Armature

The cast of the life-sized Trigger has been made, and sculptor Vic McCallum is now working on the Roy Rogers and John Johnson sculptures. Visit the Tannery Row Cultural Arts Center at 554 W. Main Street in Buford to see him at work!

From initial sketches, the model was sculpted in clay, a mold was taken, then the miniature was cast. The cast serves as a reference as sculptor Vic McCallum makes the life-size models of the two men and the horse. Vic adds clay to metal armatures, meticulously carving every detai. It may take six to nine months before the full-size clay models are ready for the mold to be taken.

Once the clay forms are complete, molds are made from them using a rubber-like material. This is what the foundry will use to make the bronze statue.
